Designer Genes

by Shannon Heiden
1/10/2009 / Devotionals

'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.' "Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image made by man's design and skill. Acts 17:29-30

Beautiful One, how often do you remember that you were cut from the same cloth as Christ?... and as Gods offspring, nothing shall be impossible to you?

The world we live in today is so remarkable. Never before have we ever achieved so much. We have technology moving faster than a speeding bullet. We are developing and progressing in our medical communities. We enjoy the wisdom and skill of gifted people that are contributors to this fast pace culture that we live in. There of course are many down sides to each of the things I've mentioned above. But, overall, the world has progressed and changed. And depending on which side of heaven you view it from, will determine how you view yourself in it.

Beautiful One, do we take the time to invite the Master Designer in to our life? Do we take the blank canvas of every day and ask God to outline our masterpiece? Or, have we grown so accustomed to living our lives, going to work, taking care of our families and paying our bills, that we just draw God into our canvases? The question remains that if we are to busy and distracted with the issues of life, may that then be the reason, life has overwhelmed so many of us with issues?

Sometimes, because of the things we deal with, we lose focus that we live with God. Sometimes we think; He is way up there and we are down here and we forget that in Him we live, move and have our being.

When the bills are past due, the kids are acting crazy, friends get upset and our jobs frustrate us, we can forget the awesome truth that; we are Gods offspring. We forget that God is working in our lives when we are jobless, sick, tired, afraid, frustrated, overlooked and unbecoming. We forget that even when we don't feel, see or hear him- He is there.

Beautiful One, the Lord is not looking for perfection, although it will come. He is not looking for the brightest although He makes us wiser. The Lord is not looking for the best looking, even though He arrays us in robes of righteousness.
God is looking for availability and a teachable heart. If you think you have it all figured out, then I have to tell you, you don't. If you think you don't know enough, I completely agree with you. Man in all of his wisdom, creativity, health and wealth can and does often, overlook one essential thing; "The earth is the Lords and everything in it." (Psalm 24:1)

Jesus did not come for the healthy but the sick, He did not come for the self sufficient, He came for the needy. God doesn't need another Pharisee, He's looking for that one who's down on their knees....

May I suggest that when we are living our lives and just penciling God in, than we are doing a grievous disservice to God, ourselves and the world around us. How can we give God praise, when we are worried or complaining? Constantly rehearsing and nursing the wounds of the past... How can we help another when we are so consumed with helping ourselves? How can we be fit to run our race when half the time, we are not fit for anything but to sit?

The challenge that we face and must come to understand is that; the greatest tragedy in our lives is NOT what happened to us. The greatest tragedy is doing nothing to change it.

The greatest day of your life is when you realize that you and God living and breathing together, are the Masters of your universe. You get to determine where and how you go. You may not have had a say to how you started, the middle may have been messy, but so what... Welcome to the fellowship of suffering along with the rest of us.

The greatest day of your life is when you own your life, no one to lean on, rely on or blame. Own your mistakes, hurts and disappointments. Own up to them, feel them and then put them under the microscope of the watchful eye of God and let them go. They cannot be undone. All they can do is distort the truth, pollute your potential and dilute your faith.

Let them go.

One of the most profound, life changing things I ever heard, came one day from a woman I barely knew. God had showed this woman as she was praying for me that egregious things had happened to me in my past. She acknowledged what God showed her, they were tragic and terrible but then she said this; "But they happened to a dead woman."

What God was saying to me was that every trouble and tragedy I had gone through from the beginning of my days until that particular one, happened to a woman who I no longer was. God had washed all of my life in the blood of Christ. That one sentence liberated me from any residual pain that was operating in me, and completely set me free. When I look back from where I started, to where I stand today, the only scar that remains is the scar of Love. God saw every detail of my life and had brought me through.

I repented for holding on to dead things that contaminated my presence on this earth. And so I now challenge and ask you; what are you giving CPR to that you just need to let die?

May I suggest that if there is anything that is draining, wounding and jading you- causing you to have doubt, fear and unbelief then maybe you need to re-examine it through Gods perspective, so that He can bring closure to your gaping wound.

Beautiful One, we will never have all the answers to the why's in life and we need to learn to be okay with that. We spend so much time trying to justify and reconcile our pasts, that we miss the opportunities where God has redeemed it.

The bottom line is, it is Gods job to take care of us, it is our job to take care of others. It is as simple as that. We cannot allow ourselves to become distracted with the pains of yesterdays. For He rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and brought us, transferred us, picked us up from where we were and dropped us, planted and deposited us into the Kingdom of the Son He loves. We are accepted, loved, forgiven, covered, powerful, protected, justified, redeemed and we are new creations in Christ.

If we can embrace this truth; that we live, move and have our being in God, not our relationships, jobs, mortgages and mindsets, but with God, we then can let go of so much baggage.

Maybe whatever issue in life you are facing needs to be viewed in this light;"you will never know God is all you need, until God is all you have."

Beautiful One, just believe and remember, you have been cut from the Masters cloth.
