Advice from SOC's; Teen Advice Column (Anger and Unforgiveness)

DEAR SOC's: I overheard my friend gossiping about me. I'm so mad at her that we're no longer speaking.

SOC's: Betrayal feels like the worst thing a friend can do to you. Your emotions as a teen may make you feel like you're on a roller coaster, and getting angry is one of the emotions you'll struggle with at some time.

What does the Bible say about anger? "In your anger, do not sin; do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold." (Ephesians 4:26-27). The Bible tells us not to sin in our anger, not to hold onto anger and not allow the devil a foothold into our lives by staying mad at someone. Anger in our hearts produces bitterness toward each other, and God doesn't want Christians to hold onto bitterness and unforgiveness.

We're called to imitate Christ, meaning we need to love and forgive each other and be slow to anger. Your friend made a mistake and you need to forgive her. Unless you're perfect, you will someday say or do something without thinking that you'll need one of your friends to forgive you too!

It's hard to stay mad at someone when you're praying for them. Ask God to give you the strength to forgive them, and then ask God to bless them today!
