Cowering Christians

In the Biblical days of Daniel, unwavering, visible, faith was grounds for being thrown into a lions den. Today, the wavering, wobbly, fearful actions of many Christians indicate that the poor lions would probably starve to death.
According to the Bible, a Christian is a person that is a Christ follower. The foundation of faith dictates that this includes not only calling Jesus name, but walking and talking His beliefs. And, the scriptures make it clear that Jesus never said or did anything contrary to His Father in heaven. Thus, for those professing Christianity, who are yet in agreement with same-sex marriages, the question is, "Where is your harmony with God?"
Throughout the centuries, history indicates that numerous issues have set Christians and non-believers on opposite sides. However, this particular issue, because of its hidden agenda of destroying mankind, may be the spiritual "Sodom and Gomorrah" line drawn in the sand.
What brought this to a head for me was the telecast of a Dr. Phil show on this issue. A pro and con panel had been created. The audience participated by separating themselves on the same grounds. Dr. Phil commented that there were Christians on the pro gay marriage side of the audience. He also stated that his purpose for the show was to see if there were any common grounds for agreement.
Excuse me? Since when does a Christian agree with Satan's goals? Yes, Christians are supposed to love all others including their enemies. However, love does not mean ignoring God's truths. Rather, Christian believers are called to be examples of steadfast Godly love. Godly love does not waver and go the other side because of the lifestyles chosen by family or friends.
Dr. Phil also commented that he was sure that people were yelling at their television screens. In my case, it occurred when a gay audience member claimed that God had made him gay. Neither my age nor my arthritic knees held me back as I charged up out my seat. Yes, I yelled at the television. "Someone, anyone, please tell him God's word," I pleaded with an inanimate object. Oh well. By the way, none quoted the word of God.
Christian believers are given the perfect example of how to respond to Satan's attacks against God.
The Bible states in Mathew 3, that Jesus was identified and baptized as the son of Yahweh, a believer's heavenly Father. In chapter 4, Jesus is led into the wilderness to be tested. After 40 days of fasting, Satan confronts Jesus by tempting him with first food.
Jesus did not get into a discussion about the type of food in order to create a point of agreement. Neither did he say, "Yo, Satan, can't we just get along?" Most importantly, he didn't offer His own opinion. Instead, Jesus quoted His Father's words to Satan. Not once, nor twice, but all three times that Satan tried to tempt him.
Satan ceased his attacks against God and left. Even he realized that it was fruitless to argue the word with the Word.
Contrarily, the Christians on Dr. Phil's show failed to follow Jesus' example. The result was that anger, yelling, and harsh accusations dominated the show. In fact, the activists for the gay community were yet adamant to continue their ungodly battle.
Christian believers are called by God to be walking, talking, examples of His truth, which is the light. Jesus said to let this light shine before mankind. Sadly, the only lights seen on this particular show were the stage lights.
No wonder the world is confused.
God's view points on same-sex relationships, much less marriage, are clear. Just a few examples are Lev. 18: 22 - Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. (KJV) Or, Lev. 20: 13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: (KJV) For those who may not like God's word in the Old Testament, His truth is continued in the New Testament.
1 Cor. 6: 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, (KJV)
Darby's Bible version makes it clearer than most. Verse 9 - ...Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who make women of themselves, nor who abuse themselves with men, (DBY).
When God's words, rather than personal opinions, are used, two things seem to happen. Argument ceases and people's lives are changed.
For instance, in the 16th chapter of Acts, a guard and his household were saved because Paul spoke the words of the Lord. Notice I said Paul spoke God's words and not his own opinion. Because of Paul's obedience to God as to what to say, the man and his entire household were saved.
If God's words had been used during the Dr. Phil show, who knows what may have happened. What person's life on that panel or in the audience, may have been saved? What if God's Holy Spirit had just one person watching and waiting to hear His truth that they could be saved?
We serve a mighty God, and the life-changing power of His Word has not changed. It can and does transform lives. Christians, step forward in love and truth and allow others to see the reason for your hope. Jesus is still the reason.
