Smile of God

by Obed Ainsworth

Once upon a time, when I was in KarachiThere was a Haleem shop.
What is Haleem?
O Well, for those who do not know, Haleem is a blend of all the lentils and meat cooked in rich and strong spices and garnished with strips of ginger, fresh coriander leaves and garam masala (blend of Indian spices) sprinkled over before dishing it out. Karachi Haleem is special. If you happen to consume it for the first time, you might taste it through and through.
Now Back to Karachi!
Karachi's Summer was in its full swing with its perfect splendour.
Temperatures were sky high.
Heat was hot enough to cook everything around.
Dust and smoke filled the air and there was an ocean of people.
You see, in Pakistan, we do not believe very much in family planning, so there is a population explosion.
In Karachi,
People are every where.
On the roads. In the roads.
Under the bridges. Over the bridges.
On the footpaths. In the open spaces.
Think of a place and people are there.
And Noise? There are all sorts of noises, noise of people, noise of vehicles, so much so that even tinnitus would vanish on top speed.
And I was on my Honda 110 Super motorbike trying to fly it in the attempt to create an air conditioning effect on my self. You see, when temperatures are sky high and no breeze around, body perspires, so in that state of affairs we can create cooling effects by creating artificial air and one way is to fly your motorbike.
But now let's get on a serious note!
All of a sudden I stopped and observed. Many people gathered on that Haleem shop. Eating, talking, and laughing enjoying the meal.
But a woman sat on the bare foot path with three children, with one dry chapatti in hand. But people eating, talking and laughing and enjoying the meal.
A man approached the Haleem shop, bought a lot of food and gave it to that woman and children. Smiles appeared on their faces. God like smiles, smiles loaded with thanks
That man bought little food for himself sat on the bare footpath on a little distance, quickly consumed it and disappeared. Who was he, a Muslim, Christian, Hindu or just a human but definitely Christ like human.
But he left, Mom and children happy, smiling with God like smile. It is written in Bible, 'When the Son of man shall come in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he shall sit upon the throne of his glory, and before him shall be gathered all nations; and he shall separate them one from another as a shepherd divides [his] sheep from the goats, and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto those on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry, and ye gave me food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed [thee]? or thirsty and give [thee] drink? When did we see thee a stranger and take [thee] in? or naked and clothe [thee]? Or when did we see thee sick or in prison and come unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brothers, ye have done [it] unto me. Then he shall also say unto those who [shall be] on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry, and ye gave me no food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then they shall also answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister unto thee? Then he shall answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did [it] not to one of the least of my brothers, ye did [it] not to me. And they shall go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. (Matthew 25: 31-46)
