There's No Time But the Present
by Terry R A Eissfeldt
4/23/2007 / Parenting
Oh, my day seems like forever
From the dawn into the night
Little children all around me
Always refereeing a fight
Where's the peace and
Where's the quiet?
I can't wait until they've grown
I've no time for my own things
But I will when they're gone
Then I hear the Lord say
There's no time but the present
To hold that little one
There's no time but the present
To share in childish fun
There's no time but the present
To teach them of My ways
For the present is soon the past
There will be no more baby days
But Lord, I cried
My day goes on forever
From the dawn into the night
Little children all around me
Always running from left to right
I've no peace and I've no quiet
I've no time for Your Word
Don't You want me for a witness
To go out to the world?
But He said
There's no time but the present
To let the children come
There's no time but the present
To do as I have done
There's no time but the present
To truly follow Me
So put your flesh behind you
And let your spirit see
I closed my eyes to the little messes all around me.
I stopped my ears to the little voices calling, "Mommy!"
I shut out all the childish things that surrounded me
And I imagine what ten years would bring.
Peace, quiet, a neat house that would last more than five minutes.
Wow! I could walk around the kitchen without someone tugging at my leg!
I could eat meals without having to cut up someone else's food
Or clean up someone else's spilled milk.
I could sit down and read with full knowledge that I would quit on my own time.
Oh! This is too much! I could go to the bathroom, take my time, have a bath,
Do whatever I wanted to, without someone banging on the door crying,
"Mommy, I have to go BAD!"
Ah, time, time to myself.
Wait
Where's the little voice saying, "Mommy, I wuv you."?
Where's the little hand squeezing mine, hard?
Where's the little feet on top of mine as we dance through the kitchen?
Where's the little arms stretching up saying, "Mommy, hold me high."?
Where's the little tears that only I can wipe away?
Where's the owie that needs a Mommy's special kiss?
Where's my little girl skipping down the stairs?
Where's my little boy throwing a ball?
The Spirit said
They've all grown
They're busy without you
Time...time so fast...time...it's gone
The Spirit led me back
There's no time but the present
To dry away the tears
There's no time but the present
To help calm childish fears
There's no time but the present
To love each little one
For the present is soon the past
And this time will be gone
Oh, my day flies right on by me
From the dawn into the night
Little children all around me
They're my joy and my delight
When they fight and when they're crying
I pray for Jesus heart
I need His love to guide me
So I can do my part
