Reflections on a Rake -- poem

Autumn leaves are curled-up
edges wrapped in calico,
and prey to a rasp of tines
scraping across
the green of leftover lawn.

Footfalls from children
herald their launch
as they tamp down a pile
of collected leaves
laughing and wrestling
in the last of
summer innocence --

adults barbecuing burgers
with friends
inclined to visit, and
chattering in every direction.

Musing during his rest
thoughts gather in patterns,
shifts one foot to another
dear one calling lunch

another sweep should
complete morning's task
and he does
with a burst of finality.

Richard enjoys writing poems; many of which have been published in Print and Online. He and his wife, Esther are also co-authors of stories and a print novel. They are "born again" Christians and very busy in their church, Abundant Life Victory International, in Bible Hill, Nova Scotia.
