BRINGING SHAME TO GOD'S NAME
by Lewis E. Thomas
7/23/2017 / Poetry
Imagine a Father with a rebellious son who disobeys!
A son who disrespects others when he does not get his way!
Eventually the word in the neighborhood gets around!
Now, when folks see him coming they begin to frown!
Then comments are made, "That's Mr. So in So's son who lives down the street!
That boy has a foul mouth and he is a little thief!
The Son's bad conduct has brought a reproach on the Father's good name!
But did you know we Christians often do the same!
If our behavior becomes unholy on the path we trod.
We may bring a great reproach on the holy name of GOD!
We make His Church and all Christians look like a bunch of hypocritical clowns!
And we cast a black mark across God's holy renown!
Our conduct and behavior should be holy at all times!
Our behavior should always bring praise and glory to the Devine!
Calling yourself a Christian demands great responsibility!
We must walk in perfect obedience and humility!
We should never do anything to bring shame upon God and Christ!
Because to redeem us they both suffered and paid a high price!
There is someone watching you every day!
Does your conduct point them to that Straight and Narrow way?
Does your behavior tend to make others look to God above?
"Or does it bring a reproach on the God that you claim to love?"
