A LESSON FROM JONAH!

 
The biblical story in the book of Jonah is only four chapters long!
But contained therein is a message that is powerful and strong!
 
God commanded Jonah to go to Nineveh to warn their King!
But, Jonah rebelled against God's command and did a selfish thing!
 
Jonah hated the Ninevites for their violent and cruel past!
Jonah didn't want God to "show mercy" on Nineveh and thereby withold His wrath!
 
So, Jonah attempting to flee from God, jumped aboard a ship heading the opposite way!
Not realizing his rebellion was about to ruin his and everyone around him's day!
 
As Jonah slept in the lower decks of the ship, a Great Storm arose with mighty waves!
Everyone on board feared they were about to perish and go to their graves!
 
They cast lots to discover who had sinned and brought forth this angry storm?
They knew something was amiss, and that things were certainly not the norm!
 
Jonah confessed to them openly that he was the guilty one!
That he was in rebellion against God and on the run!
 
They threw Jonah overboard and a Great Fish swallowed Jonah up!
He spent three days and nights in the belly of a fish, smelling things foul and corrupt!
 
The Great Fish vomited Jonah out onto land after three days at God's word!
Isn't the story of Jonah the strangest story that you've ever heard?
 
Jonah finally obeyed God and went to Nineveh and warned the King of soon coming wrath!
And the whole city of Nineveh "repented" of their sins and chose a holy path!
 
This story shows us all how much God loves sinners like me and you!
And how He "longs for us all to repent" so He can save us and make us new!
 
Jonah teaches us how "our" rebellion against God can also effect/hurt others as well!
"Our rebellion" can cause others in our circle to "follow" our unholy lead straight into Hell!
