Big Boys Do Cry

by PamFord Davis
1/22/2020 / Death

Be a big boy; don’t cry. People will think you’re a sissy!

Big boys do cry.

“When Joseph came home, they brought him the gift they had carried into the house, and they bowed to the ground before him.

He asked if they were well, and he said, ‘How is your elderly father that you told me about? Is he still alive?’

They answered, ‘Your servant our father is well. He is still alive.’ And they bowed down to honor him.

When he looked up and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, he asked, ‘Is this your youngest brother that you told me about?’ Then he said, ‘May God be gracious to you, my son.’ Joseph hurried out because he was overcome with emotion for his brother, and he was about to weep. He went into an inner room to weep (Genesis 43:26-30 HCSB).”

Yes; even Jesus wept.

“When Mary came to where Jesus was and saw Him, she fell at His feet and told Him, ‘Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died!’

When Jesus saw her crying, and the Jews who had come with her crying, He was angry in His spirit and deeply moved (John 11:32-33 HCSB).”

Angry at those in sorrow? I think not. I believe He was angry at death, the final enemy.  “The last enemy to be abolished is death (1 Corinthians 15:26 HCSB).”

“Where have you put him?’ He asked. ‘Lord,’ they told Him, ‘come and see.’

Jesus wept.

"So the Jews said, ‘See how He loved him (John 11:34-36 HCSB)!”

Have faith.

“Weeping may spend the night,
but there is joy in the morning (Psalm 30:5b HCSB).”
