P.O.W.E.R. Girl II (excerpt) - Party Games for Family Time

by Tonja Taylor
8/26/2020 / Family

In my book, The Adventures of Princess Pearl, P.O.W.E.R. (Purposeful Operations With Eternal Rewards) Girl! Book II, I list these as games that Princess Pearl makes up. She loves parties and having fun with friends and family.

However, they will really work and be fun to play with your friends and family! I wanted to share them, so here they are:

1. What Kind of Tree are You? (Trees of Personality)

Ask questions of individuals, pairs, or teams to guess the kind. You can show pictures and give hints, and share interesting facts about them.

Mimosa (lovely, “pink” graceful (Sanguine)
Oak - sturdy, dependable, sheltering others (Choleric)
Dogwood - (Melancholy)
Live oak (Phlegmatic)

2. Spread the Word

This is like the game "Gossip" where participants form a line. The first person in line says a Bible verse. It is repeated by whispers down the line, until the person at the end (hopefully!) repeats it correctly.

3. Spiritual Scrabble

Using a Scrabble board or magnetic alphabet letters (preferably two sets!) or alphabet flashcards, spell words only found in the Word of God.

4. The 7 Virtues

Participants take paper or cardboard crowns (I have found that scalloped bulletin board borders, which you can find at dollar stores, work perfectly for these!) and paste onto the crowns 7 "gems." For the gems, kids can color or cut out construction paper symbols, each of which stands for a different virtue. For instance, a red heart can stand for "love," and a blue diamond for "truthfulness," and so on.  Each person makes up a sentence or explains what the virtue means, and how they use it in their lives, or know someone who has that virtue (Jesus has them all, of course).  They can also make suggestions about how to have more of each virtue in their lives, and what Scriptures talk about these virtues.

5. Crowns at Jesus' Feet

Participants must say three Scriptures correctly, according to the version they are using (they must tell the version), and then they get a crown. These can be paper crowns (the ones they made in the 7 Virtues game would work!), or the kids can make them. Once they get three crowns, they get to pretend to throw them at Jesus' feet as worship music is played.

Tonja and her husband live to exalt God. They lift Him up in books (P.O.W.E.R. Girl!; LEGACY; Visions of the King; Your Holy Health; more); presentations; service in church, community, and the world; and via the "River Rain Creative" (309 videos) and "POWERLight Learning" You Tube channels.
