Burdens Of A Christian Writer

by Olawale Ogunsola

"9:3 And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side;" Ezekiel
There are writers and there are writers. There are various types of writers; and each writer is inspired to write on any subject and title of his choice. Not only this, each writer has his reasons to "put pen on paper". To use "modern" language, each writer has his reasons to sit in front of a computer to press keys.

The purpose of this few lines is to call the attention of every Christian writer to the perculiar nature of his assignments.

One, a Christian writer is chosen by the Lord for special kingdom work. Do you say it is a calling? You are right. In the vision of Prophet Ezekiel quoted earlier, it is recorded,
"And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side;"

The man was called with his writing material with him. It was the Lord Who needed him and what He has given him for His glory only. A Christian writer does not write for any other reason than the glory of God. Let me not fail to state it clearly that I am not imputing sin into making money through Christian writing but this is not the MAIN PURPOSE. It is a food and reward for a servant's labour when money or anything good comes from such writing.

It should be noted that, a Christian writer is raised for the glory of God. You are not wrong if you call it "witnessing" for Him. It is a call to witness.

Two, I want to call your attention to the garment of the called writer in the vision of Prophet Ezekiel, he was "clothed with linen".

This suggests that a Christian Writer is expected to have s garment of holiness on him because his Master who called and commissioned him is holy. Then and only then can he be a vessel unto honor in the hands of his Master. Let me not fail to state here that a writer may be a borrowed vessel if he fails to fit in into being a vessel unto honor. The Lord will not leave him to waste His treasures deposited in him. He may end up being a "sinful worker" if he fails to repent and refuse to put on the garment of holiness.

Third, a Faithful Christian Writer cannot write for his fancy. He cannot write to his own taste or according to his will. He is commissioned by the Lord, so his writing should be to please Him only. Otherwise, he will not have any reward from the Master Who owns him and the treasures in him.

At the end of the day, a Christian Writer should be able to echo the words of the Writer in Ezekiel's vision thus,
"I have done as thou hast commanded me. Ezekiel 9:11.

Strive hard to be bold at the end of the day to say the same thing. Please, it is a burden for a Christian writer to write what the Lord has commanded him.

Beloved reader, may the Lord help you and me to be fit to be used as a vessel unto honor for His glory in holiness in Jesus name.
Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
