Peace, Be Still
by Faith Jansky
12/16/2022 / Poetry
I saw the billows raging;
I felt the fiercest tempest’s blast.
I knew that I couldn’t stand,
Unless my Savior held me fast.
My faith felt weak, and falt’ring;
My body, so weak and frail.
But I cried to my Jesus,
And heard His sweet voice; “Peace, be still.”
He calmed my heart so sweetly,
And my doubts seemed to fly away;
For He drew me to Himself,
And gave me strength to face the day.
Yes, the storm still raged around,
But He calmed the fierce storm within.
He helped me walk in His strength,
Leaving my great weakness with Him.
I wanted the trials gone;
The storm, to be forever past.
He wanted to strengthen me;
To walk so near, and hold me fast.
I knew His strength in weakness;
His calm, e’en while in the fire.
He gave me strength to trust Him,
And became my heart’s desire.
I need not fear future storms,
Or walk alone through trials sore.
I hear the Master’s “Peace, be still”,
And know He’ll guide me to that shore.
