Kissing And Cleaving
by Olawale Ogunsola
7/08/2023 / Relationships
Relationships come in various forms and love in each relationship is expressed in different ways. The choice belongs to the people involved. What is appealing to Group A may be different from that of Group B.
Two of the ways by which people express love to each other are by kissing and cleaving (embracing).
Kisses, many times are more associated with departure and betrayal. In an interview with a man recently, he said that he fears his friends more than his enemies. Who is closer to employ kisses? I think it is a friend. You can set a boundary for your enemies but can you do same for your friend?
By the time you begin to set limits on the extent a friend can move closer to you, it means that your trust in him is being eroded. People will even be suspicious of what is happening.
It is worthy of mention here that it was with a kiss that Judas Ischariot betrayed Jesus Christ into the hand of His enemies.
Not only that, a kiss may define a permanent or temporary departure from one another. In other words, a kiss can be for a separation forever or for a period of time.
An example of a kiss for permanent departure is the one employed by Orpah, a daughter-in-law to Naomi. Ruth chapter one in verse fourteen (c). They kissed to meet no more.
On the other hand, Ruth, another daughter-in-law cleaved to her mother (in-law) with a strong determination. They stayed together until death separated them. Cleaving in this case denotes a.mark or symbol of staying together forever, Ruth 1:15-16.
Kissing and Cleaving.
Does it then mean that kissing is a sin? Not really! However, it could be made stronger by combining it with cleaving or an embrace like Jonathan and David.
20:3 And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
20:41 And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.
20:42 And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city." 1 Samuel.
Pay attention to the fact that they wept on each other because an embrace was Incorporated. Not just a casual, get away quick kind of a kiss. It was one from the heart. The heart was groossly involved.
Although, by reason of David's troubles at the time, both went in different ways but their hearts were with each other. They did not engage in "out of sight is out of mind" kind of friendship. A heartfelt covenant was involved, so they were not spiritually separated. the
Beloved, which type do you employ? Are you involved in a kiss with the Lord or in an embrace. Do you just want to take something from the Lord only to abandone Him later, possibly forever? It will not be to your advantage. Cleave to the King of Kings and you can never regret it. You will reap the benefits in this life and in eternity. He loves you and wants you to spend the rest of your life with Him. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
