PURPOSE IN PAIN

by linzy bruno
2/02/2024 / Poetry

In this hurting world

where Satan rules,

and the weight is heavy on the strain,

believers can rise

and shake away old dust,

for with God,

there is purpose in pain.

(“But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.1Peter 5:10)

So although we do suffer

ailments and ills,

and man turns our name to smear;

God affords believers

courage and strength

to push through the drama and the fear.

(“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1John 4:4)

Because in pain,

we become more like Him;

God’s plan to teach us,

and help us grow;

filling our hearts with His joy,

while the world is reeling,

desperate and low.

(“But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31)

How Gracious is He

Who restricts Satan’s reign,

of toils, of fears, and of lust,

who reminds us to revel

in knowledge of Him,

Who miraculously made us from dust.

(“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” Genesis 2:7)

So, therefore,

we can be brave in our anguish,

so far from the ludicrous and the lame,

so strong are we in our weakness;

we are the conquerors who love Him,

and know His Name!

(“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Romans 8:37)

“And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:18-20)
