The Hope of Heaven
by Tonja Taylor
2/09/2024 / Salvation
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. - Titus 2:11-14, KJV
Last week, after a long battle with disabilities and diesease, my dear elderly mother passed away in her sleep--to Heaven, I am sure.
However, she doubted her Salvation for almost 50 years, and vacillated between feeling condemned, rejected, and unworthy, and having true peace that only Jesus Christ, the Hope of Heaven, can give!
Praise the LORD, He sent a kind, wise chaplain, who is also a pastor of over 30 years, to talk to Mom, comfort and encourage her, and pray with her, so she could get her heart and soul right with God. After that, she told him she was truly read to go to Heaven.
I remembered that she and I got born again during the same summer, when I was 9, and understood during Vacation Bible School that I needed a Savior and LORD, to forgive and cleanse me of my sin, so I could always be with Jesus, with His Presence with me on earth, and perfectly, with Him in fullness, in Heaven.
So I confessed my sin, my need for a Savior, my inability to ever meet the holy standards of God on my own, and I agreed with what Jesus did for me over 2,000 years ago--by shedding His pure blood on the cross, to pay for all my sins, and all those of the world!
So did Mom. We got baptized the same Sunday, and it was glorious!
Glory Hallelujah Amen!
That was almost 50 years ago. She and Dad had gotten offended, and stopped going to church, which I could not understand for years. I had to forgive them. I know now that they were very hurt, and couldn't understand some things said from the pulpit.
However, the true nature of Jesus, in Mom's reborn spirit, continued to be there.
Truly, Hallelujah, LORD Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us, as long as we really want Him to be with us, and He (our Creator, Who gives us every breath) is more patient than that, knowing the depths of our hearts much more than we ever will.
My mother was such a loving, kind, giving person, thinking almost always of others much more than herself. She was the oldest girl in her big family, the one who took care of the siblings--then most of the extended family, decades after that.
In doing all those good deeds, she was showing the Love of God; letting Him Who is Love (I John 4:8) flow through her. Her delight was truly in her giving!
I understood at some point that she felt right and worthy of God's love when she was giving, but she had a very hard time reconciling His unchanging, eternal, unconditional love with the other parts of her life.
Such is the case with most true Believers: We want to feel right with God, which usually comes when we are consciously doing good things, and avoiding what we know to be against Him.
But it's not by works; only our faith in the Blood of Jesus shed at the cross.
He is our only true Hope!
Through books, courses, presentations, service, prayer, worship, and more, Tonja and her husband live to exalt God. Her series for girls, P.O.W.E.R. GIRL ADVENTURES, is now out (books I-V), along with LEGACY; YOUR HOLY HEALTH: VISIONS OF THE KING, and more. See the "River Rain Creative" YT channel.
