"THE WISE SHALL UNDERSTAND:" Daniel 12

by linzy bruno
3/01/2024 / Prophecy

“Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.” (Daniel 12:10)

This chapter in Daniel deals with the wisdom that newly saved believers will discover during the tribulation that will commence with the revelation of our LORD Jesus Christ. This said wisdom aligns with that time period, however, prophecy students can gleam greater knowledge from our vantage point today, especially when we consider verse 4, as this verse provides insight as to the timeline.

Through the fascinating recordings of Daniel 12 and his vision from God, the end of days are laid out for the wise to behold and the wicked to despise and fail to understand. Furthermore, God illustrates that in Daniel’s time, full comprehension of this vision would not be possible, as God has marked increased knowledge for matters regarding the End Days to bring about a more profound wisdom for modern-day believers, as He declares in verse 4, and reaffirms in verses 8 & 9.

Moreover, the chapter starts out with the Archangel Michael ready to fight for God’s Kingdom. ‘And there shall be a time of trouble,’ which refers to ‘Jacob’s Trouble;’ a time of tremendous tribulation that will last for 7 horrifying years, as is recorded in Matthew 24:21.

Also for our knowledge today, although this chapter does not deal with the event of the Rapture, in verse 2 God describes those already in their graves, rising to stand before the Lord: “those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake;” a direct parallel to the two most descript Rapture verses in all of God’s Word. Moreover, the Archangel Michael is also present for our phenomenal worldwide Rescue event!

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:” (1Thessalonians 4:16-17)

“Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” (1Corinthians 15:52)

Furthermore, through the use of future tense, as seen underlined in multiple places, the Scripture reaffirms that these passages point to the Great Tribulation, which will be the worst time ever to be experienced by the unsaved. Those who come to accept Jesus as Savior during this time will also go through major trials, however, God will provide and protect to the degree He has ordained for that time for the sake of His Tribulation saints.

Finally in verse 13, God reminds Daniel that he will receive his inheritance and become whole through the receiving of his supernatural body at that time.

DANIEL 12

“At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, Even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, Every one who is found written in the book.

2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, Some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt.

3 Those  who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever.

4 But you Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.

5 Then I, Daniel looked; and there stood two others, one on this riverbank and the other on that riverbank.

6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?”

7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished.

8 Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, “My lord, what shall be the end of these things?”

9 And He said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

10  Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.

11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days.

12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.

13 But you, go your way till the end; for you shall rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days.

So What MORE Can Believers Today Derive From Daniel 12?

V.1). Many people will be killed with war and famine, and some will have gone to Heaven through death or the Rapture. But, what is emphasized is that this time will be worse than anyone can imagine for those who remain on the earth; a time of great trouble (The Great Tribulation/Jacob’s Trouble) is coming for the wicked: anyone who rejects the Lord Jesus. And the Archangel, Michael will be readied for this time of tremendous hardship and pain brought on by demonic forces that have been gradually polluting God’s Kingdom on the earth for years and will at that time reach climatic heights.

V.2). Every person who ever lived by the end of that time will be judged in accordance with their own heart condition, and countenance before GOD.

V.3) Those who find salvation during this time will shine and be a bright light for those who are lost. This implies that this will be a time of great revival; perhaps the greatest of all time; perhaps the greatest of all time, because of power of the witness of that time, and also in the supernatural through the “Two Witnesses” we read about in the Book of Revelation; chapter 11, verse 3.

V.4). This verse depicts God informing Daniel that in his time there will not be enough knowledge for anyone to understand his vision, therefore he is instructed to put it out of his mind and not be troubled  any further by the prophetic, mysterious implications.

V.5). Daniel sees the heads of the fight standing on opposite sides; the fight of good and evil ready to commence. For although Satan will be wreaking havoc on the whole entire earth during this time, God’s legion of angels, headed by Archangel Michael, will also be there to protect those in which they were assigned to protect.

V.6). Furthermore, Daniel sees Jesus and asks Him how long this tribulation will last.

V.7). This period will last for seven years, known as the tribulation, or Jacob’s Trouble, however in this verse, Jesus refers to the second half of the tribulation, which is deemed the Great Tribulation; even worse than the first half of this time period. This timeline is confirmed in Revelation 12:6 as meaning 3 and a half years. This greater time of tribulation appears to be connected to the abomination of desolation spoken of in Daniel 9:27, which refers to the breaking of the covenant implemented by the Antichrist half way through the tribulation. Moreover in Daniel 9:27, ‘one week’ refers to 7 years rather than 7 days. For once the Antichrist is in full control; having overtaken the temple, he will also take full control over all people, except those who refuse his mark, as recorded in Revelation 13:16-17.

Does "days" in prophecy equal "years" (Daniel 9 - Seventy ...

Mar 11, 2013 — For various reasons this word is translated as “weeks” and means a multiple of seven years rather than a multiple of seven days. a)

V.8 & 9). Daniel confesses that he does not understand and asks how long this time period will last, but God tells him not to be concerned for it is knowledge not intended for his time.

V.10). Through this verse, it is clear that the ‘wise’ who will understand refers to those who become wise through salvation during the tribulation, however, wisdom predominately applies for believers today; providing we are willing to face the Truth and study Eschatology. We will notice the signs that Jesus spoke of, signs in the sun, moon and stars, severe and unusual weather changes, pestilence & disease, both new and old, famine and wars, the apostasy of the church, and the persecution of Christians, as is recorded in a variety of prophetic passages all throughout the Bible, but most definitively and predominately in Matthew 24 & Mark 13.

For the wise will know that Daniel, as well as John the Revelator saw a vision of what was to come to pass far into the future. Moreover, Jesus’ finely detailed the condition of the world during the Last Days in Matthew and Mark, just prior to His Return for His Church, and after that the seven year tribulation. Furthermore, today we can gleam even further knowledge through Paul’s Epistles, as he painstakingly provides comfort through his confirmation of the pre-tribulation Rapture for his church in 1Thessalonians 5 & 1Thessalonians 4:18.

V.11). This verse tells us that half way through the tribulation, the Antichrist will sit in the temple as though he is God; claiming that He is God. And he will do away with the sacrifices that Israel will have returned to sometime earlier during this time frame, for regular offerings before the Lord’s Throne. (2Thessalonians 2:4 is a parallel to this Truth).

V.12). This verse is clear that something good will come to those who endure at the point of three years and eight months, however, God does leave some mystery regarding the full meaning of this verse, as He does not explain this distinction between six months and eight month. However, this may refer to the time of Jesus' Second Coming when He sets up His Kingdom for one thousand years, in which case the ‘something good’ would refer to our return with Jesus to rule and reign with Him on the earth for one thousand years!

V.13). This verse is clear that those who endure through this terrible time shall enjoy their eternal inheritance of Heaven!
