EVERY LIFE MATTERS TO GOD: Sunday School Lesson

“The only good thing that BLM and CRT really accomplished, I suppose without proposing to, was their rhetoric does cause us to stop and think…..not that we didn’t already realize that every life matters to God, but when there’s that kind of “buzz” going on so prevalently in our society, and we see public school curriculums teaching white students that they need to feel guilty for the way God made them. Not that we in Christian school have to deal with those teachings. Thank God. But our students may be faced with those lies through their friends and relatives, so that's why we need to bring that up to them as well.....But, like I said, it does cause us to stop and recall what God’s Word has to say. Hence, these sickening teachings (See Ephesians 5:11-17) do serve as a reminder that every life matters to God, which means every life should matter to each of us who claim to believe on Him.

The Bible doesn’t even refer to people in terms of race. In the Book of Acts it says we are of 'one blood.’ That implies one race not in accordance with color, but faith in God through Christ, which means the Bible doesn’t see color like the world sees color. However, if the Bible did indeed acknowledge color, it would acknowledge it by whether someone follows a pagan god or the One True God:

“Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you were religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with the inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.” (Acts 17:22-23a)

“Therefore, the One who you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you; God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshipped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of you own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ (Acts 17:23b-28)

What the Bible acknowledges is people groups, for the sole purpose of identifying where someone is from:

Furthermore, the Bible also prohibits prejudice against someone merely because of skin color, cultural background, financial status or anything to do with the injustice of judging someone unfairly, for who can choose the group from whence they came and how can every man be rich?

“He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.” (Proverbs 14:31)

“He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.” (Proverbs 17:5)

And, if God were against people mixing outside their groups, why did He not chastise Moses for marrying outside of his people group? Because racism comes only from men:

“Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married; for he had married an Ethiopian woman.” (Numbers 12:1)

No, the only time God chastises anyone for marrying outside their group, is when they marry someone from a pagan family:

“For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; so the anger of the LORD will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly.” (Deuteronomy 7:4)

And, moreover, God did not assign races, because we are all of one race, the human race, God's Word acknowledges cultural differences…… ethnic groups, or people groups. He never said races. Perhaps it was Satan who inspired us to use that word, but according to the Scriptures, it sure wasn’t God,”  Jerry Sullivan, the Principal of Love Christ Christian Elementary Academy declared; concluding his opening statements in commencement of his teachers’ meeting.

“Well, I guess this is a good and valuable lesson for our Christian school, but it could cause a stir; I mean what an emotionally charged topic for a sixth grade class. Are you sure, Mr. Sullivan, that this is what you want us to teach?” inquired Amy Connor, one of the school’s newest and youngest teachers.

“Okay, yes, I see your point, we need to be careful how we put it, but we need to be more centered around doing what God is calling us to do as educators. We have to teach these students right……to rightly divide the Word of Truth. We can’t sit idly by and watch the deception seep deeper and deeper into our students’ thinking, now can we?” Mr. Sullivan replied.

“Yes, but Jerry, I know you’re the Principal, but I’m just a little uneasy about this,” Amy replied.

“Well, I’m not changing my mind on this, but let's put it to a vote. Who agrees that we must inform our students on this topic.”

All five teachers raised their hands, while Amy sat in her chair staring out the window.

“Did you see that Amy? I mean I know you weren’t paying attention, so did you see all your fellow sixth grade teachers just raise their hands?

“Yes Jerry,” she replied, still facing the window.

“Okay then, will you please cooperate with us and teach your students this important lesson, that they should then be encouraged to share with their parents and siblings?”

“Yes Jerry,” Amy replied again.

“Good. And let me remind all of you, what the Bible teaches is beautiful. No one can be offended unless they are haters of other ‘races’ themselves. How can teaching everyone having equal worth and value to our GOD possibly be offensive? It doesn’t offend people of white descent. It doesn’t offend people of black descent. If all are considered equal, there can be no offensive. There’s no room for it and there’s no sense in it,” Mr. Sullivan declared.

Everyone got up from their seats; feeling the shock. And accepting the revelation that this lesson must be taught, each one of them went back to their classrooms and began writing lesson plans before the students came back from lunch period.

When Amy got home that evening, she went straight to her highly educated, believing husband with the unconventional news.

“Well Honey, I understand your concern, but I do agree with Jerry Sullivan on this one.”

“Yeah, I know…..I guess I’m just feeling trapped, like I don’t have a choice in the matter. He’s not gonna let this thing go ya know….He’s gonna make sure we all follow through on this lesson plan. I started writing one already, but I have to work on it some more. It looks like I’ll be late coming to bed tonight.”

“That’s okay Sweety. Do you want me to stay up with you and help you hammer it out?”

“I tell ya what I think I should do; I’ll try to manage on my own, but if I really need your help I’ll get you up. But I sure don’t want to bother you….”

“Well, at least we both have tomorrow off. It’s Saturday, remember?”

“Yeah, thanks for reminding me," she replied, with a chuckle. "Have a good night Hank.”

"You too," he replied, as he went upstairs.

Amy grabbed a notebook and a pen and sat down in her favorite chair, with a steaming cup of chamomile tea. ‘Lord, please help me to have what it takes to do this. Please help me take notes on what You have to say and on how best to teach on this difficult subject. In Jesus’ Name, please help me Lord,” she prayed.

Then that Monday morning she prayed again for the Lord to guide her. She took her notes and got into her car. Then she prayed once more.

“Hi Mrs. Connor!” the students shouted when she entered her classroom.

“Good morning everyone! I have a special lesson for you! First of all, raise your hand if you’ve heard of an organization called Black Lives Matter and a teaching they use in public school known as CRT, Critical Race Theory."

All twenty-five students raised their hands.

‘Wow, it’s even more well-known than I figured,’ Amy thought.

“Good, that’s good……I think. These movements came about when a large number of people started to believe that the law somehow isn’t fair to all people. People, both black and white decided that the police profile black people, that is to say that the authorities actually look to them and other minorities as criminals before they even do anything. Of course, there may be a few that are hateful and unjust enough to do that, but that is certainly NOT the trend. Yet, that’s what these groups would have us believe……

As you grow, you’ll see that you can’t believe everything you hear. And the best way to find out the real deal, the full and unvarnished Truth is to go to the Word of God. And through the study of His Word, it’s clear that God does not judge in accordance with color. In fact, the Bible doesn’t even use the word ‘race’ to mean different people groups…..” Amy continued and sensed God's smile upon her.

And the following day at school, Amy entered the classroom before the first student arrived, picked up her chalk and wrote in big letters on the blackboard:

ALL LIVES MATTER TO GOD
