Don't Dawdle

‘What’s taking you so long? Don't dawdle.’

In days gone by, parents reprimanded their youngsters for dawdling; (wasting their time when they should have been doing what they’d been told). They knew it was time to leave for school or church and they still weren’t ready. Mom or Dad’s patience ran out; there simply wasn’t time to lollygag.

‘Look at yourself in the mirror; wash that dirty face!’

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing (James 1:22-25 ESV).”

Am I a deluded dawdler? God’s word is a mirror and I see my imperfections.

The Holy Spirit empowered Christ; enabling Him to ‘do good.’

“As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all), you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed:  how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him (Acts 10:36-38 ESV).”
