The Promise of an Impossibility
by Yuri Solomon
10/27/2024 / Devotionals
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (Matthew 24:24)
The simplicity of this text is that God will do what it takes to preserve His elect. For us who are His chosen, God will never put more on us than we can bear. In other words, He will let nothing destroy us; because, He has destined us, indeed predestined us for glory. He will never allow the darkness to get that dark; the pain will never be that severe; the challenge will never be that hard; the fight will never overcome you, to the extent that it destroys your faith in God. I didn’t say it won’t seem impossible. I did not say it won’t look like a Rea Sea, a fiery furnace, a lion’s den, but I said it can’t win. WHY: because God has chosen the Saints; God has saved the Saints, and God is keeping the Saints. We cannot become so discouraged as to give up. We cannot become so distracted as to become lost again. We cannot become as doubtful as to lose all faith. And in this verse, we cannot become so deceived as to denounce Christ as Lord and Savior.
The truth of election can only be seen in the rear view mirror. It is not a tool to facilitate the evangelism of the unsaved, but a tool to magnify the worship of the saved. My friend once asked me “What is the practical value or applications of election?” And I answered him, “Exactly what humans don’t want, and that is to get you out of the equation of your salvation.” In other words, when you first come to Christ, you are singing Jesus “paid” it all (and He did pay it all,) but when you grow up in Christ, you start singing “God ‘planned’ it all.”
This is the truth of Election. God is absolutely sovereign. Daniel 4:35 does not say God CAN do whatever He wants to do. It says God DOES, always, without fail… He does exactly what pleases Him. God has loved the elect with and everlasting love, and nothing shall separate us from His love. Here’s the very difference between the elect and non-elect, “Jacob I have loved and Esau I have hated.” God could have said, “Jacob I have chosen to save and Esau I have not,” because that is exactly what it means. 2 Thessalonians 2:13 says, “God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth.” Acts 13:48 says “And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.”
Music is nothing but events and tones at various points in time. The whole of history is but the musical staff of time and tone, where which the Great Composer orchestrates the eventful notes that bring about the masterpiece as it was in His mind from all eternity. Every elect soul will be saved.
