Correction And Rebuke

In human relations, perfection is a very scarce commodity. No one is devoid of making mistakes. However, this should not be the end of a relationship. Someone who makes a mistake can be corrected and brought back to the right track. This can be done by the right person, no matter the rank, position, or age of the person.

The Lord Jesus Christ gave a pattern to follow in the case of Mary who anointed the feet of Jesus Christ and cleaned them with her hair. The disciples blamed her, accusing her of wasting great treasures. It was a mistake on the part of Christ's disciples because they could not comprehend the importance of the steps Mary took. The Scriptures record, "But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me. Matthew 26:10.

For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did it for My burial. Matthew 26:12.

After this simple correction, no one dared to blame the woman again. That is the efficacy of right corrections.

Rebuke.
In human relationships, sometimes a person's deeds may call for a rebuke when his acts fall short of expectations, based on age, position, experience, maturity, status, and so on.

A rebuke may not only be carried out, but it may also need or involve sharpness. Apostle Paul's exhortation to Titus is relevant and applicable here. He declares,
"Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith," Titus 1:13.

Pay attention here to the fact that each rebuke has a very good purpose. In the household of God, it can strengthen faith.

Beloved, know it well that corrections and a rebuke are part of a growing relationship. Both may be employed simultaneously or individually. Both are used for the good of the body of Jesus Christ. May the Lord help you to embrace each as it applies in the name of Jesus Christ. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
