Where were You?
by Roger Jennings
1/25/2008 / Worship
There was a day when Jesus a man from Nazareth was put to death on a cross for crimes against Jewish law. Most of the priests say he is nothing but a trouble maker and is causing unrest in the streets. This man is dead now and can no longer cause any trouble. He is laying in a tomb with armed guards to make sure those who follow him can not steal the body.
NO! It can not be he is not in the tomb. Where is the body? Who move the stone? Why did the guards not stop them? What you mean that he was raised from the dead by God, he is not the messiah, the son of God, or was he? I heard that he worked miracles and healed a great many, why I heard he gave sight to a blind man. I never thought he could be the Son of God.
This is the kind of talk that you would have heard 2005 years ago in Jerusalem a few days after they crucified Christ at Calvary. At that time I can see where there would be disbelief and doubt. People wanted a savior but not for what Jesus came to do, they wanted a savior to come and set them free from Roman rule and to reinstate Israel as head of the world. They did not want a savior to preach love for one another.
This disbelief continues today, people still want admit Jesus was the son of God. So if you and I know that he was the Christ, the savior who came to give us eternal life where were you when he needed you? We are the mouth piece that Christ uses to bring forth the news of salvation, the truth of Gods word. We are the witnesses for Christ and what he did for all of mankind. So where were you when the young man down the way was in trouble with the law and needed help in finding the right direction for his life? Where were you when the young woman was injured in a car wreck and needed reassurance? Where were you when the homeless man committed suicide without ever have been told God still loved him?
The truth is we all let Jesus down because of our human flesh. We see things and know that if that young man knew Jesus he would change, or we see a wreck and drive on by because we do not know the driver. We turn our back on the homeless and say things like he should get a job. We crucify Jesus all over again every time we meet someone that is lost and do not try to tell them what Jesus offers through his sacrifice. We who are chosen by God need to start acting like Christians. We need to stop being scared of what people will think and start worrying about what God thinks. Each of us have a debt we owe Christ and can never repay in full, so we need to make payment on this debt every chance we get by talking to young men and women about Christ and help them stay out of trouble. We need to show mercy toward those that are in need of so much. Today Satan uses Drugs, Alcohol, gangs and teen pregnancy just to name a few of the things to keep young people and adults from coming to know God. God has only the truth and if we do not tell it then we may not be as secure in our salvation as we think. God expect us to witness to the world that crucified his son.
So where will you be the next time? Where are you this time? We all know someone that does not live for Christ, will you be the one to talk to them or will Satan? This Sunday want you make a commitment to Christ to not let his going to the Cross be in vain, share what Jesus has done for you.
