Lucy Mouse and the Easter Adventure, A Children's Story
by Nancy Quinn
3/24/2009 / Short Stories
"Ow!" exclaimed Lucy Mouse. She rubbed her head and peeked into the bushes. "What is this big blue rock doing in the bushes?" Linda Ladybug hovered over the rock as Lucy retrieved the Frisbee. They peeked through the leaves and inspected the colorful rock.
Lucy reached out and pushed at the rock and it rolled a little deeper into the bushes. "I've never seen a blue rock." Said Lucy. "Let's go get your mom. Maybe she's seen one before." The friends raced through the park and down the basement steps of the little white church where Lucy lived with her family.
"Mom," called out Lucy as she scampered over the Christmas ornament box. "Come see what we found in the park!"
Lucy's mom quickly placed the last dish into the little cupboard and hung the dish towel over the sink. She followed as the curious girls raced back to the park. Lucy pushed the leaves aside and revealed the brightly colored mysterious orb.
"Why, that's an Easter egg!" exclaimed mom. "The daycare next door had an Easter egg hunt yesterday. This one must have been hidden a little too well."
"What is an Easter egg?" Lucy Mouse and Linda Ladybug asked at the same time.
"Eggs are one of the symbols of Easter." said Mom. They settled onto the park bench as she explained further. "At a Jewish Passover Seder meal, a roasted egg symbolizes that a burnt sacrifice is no longer offered because the temple no longer stands. It also reminds them that they have no sacrifice that can make them righteous before God. The egg symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus because the egg represents new life. Jesus became the sacrifice when He died for all our sins."
"Do you remember the Sunday School lesson last week where your teacher explained that Jesus died on the cross and he was placed in a tomb? A big stone was rolled in front of the tomb and it was sealed. Then they put guards by the tomb because they had heard the rumors that Jesus would be raised from the dead in three days. Do you remember what happened next?"
"Yes!" said Lucy. "Jesus did wake up on Easter morning! His friends and disciples saw the nail marks in his hands and feet, and Jesus promised that he would be with us forever, and that he would be waiting for us in heaven!"
"You know, I have some jelly beans in the cupboard. How would you girls like to have your own Easter egg hunt this afternoon?" The girls' grins gave her the answer, and plans for the adventure began.
Are you excited about celebrating Easter this year? Eggs now remind Lucy Mouse that Jesus died for her, and Jesus died for YOUR sins too! If you haven't invited Jesus to be your best friend and Savior yet, you can pray the following prayer and Jesus will be YOUR Savior too! Lucy hopes you have a wonderful Easter!
Dear God, I know I am a sinner. Please forgive me. I believe that Jesus died for me on the cross and that He arose from the grave so that I can live with Him in Heaven someday. I am now trusting Jesus as my Savior. Thank you for loving me and saving me. Amen.
Matthew 28:20a "And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Please contact me if you would like to request a specific lesson that Lucy Mouse can teach your children or if you would like a coloring page to be sent to match the story!
