Haying's done.
Dotted like freckles are
the mounds,
early morning when it all began.
First the mowing
then raking,
bailing into bundles
scattering across the field
acreage stretched into the sun.
A farmer
prideful of his rows,
the perfection of his bales
forgiving tiredness in his frame
knowing sheep and cattle will cavort
in the sweetness of grain.
The life of a young man
blissful, at
peace with himself--
sky and
land,
a field of promise to fulfill.
